| | We are pleased to announce that we no longer use perchloroethylene, a harsh chemical which is harmful to both nature and human body. It has been used and continues to be used by many dry cleaners despite the EPA¨s years of efforts to regulate and ultimately ban it. Now we are the first in metro area, and among the first in the nation, to use the most revolutionary solvent for the most ideal and nature-friendly dry cleaning. Co2, carbon dioxide, is a natural substance present in our natural atmosphere. At room temperature it is gaseous in form, but can be converted to liquid at high pressure. It acts as a carrier for biodegradable soaps, much as water carries the soap in a regular washing machine. Co2 is also used to carbonate soft drinks and beer. It is colorless, odorless, and most important, all-natural and naturally degradable. CO2 is the only 100% environmental solvent available other than water. Co2 system is the biggest innovation in dry cleaning in more than 50 years. Traditional dry cleaning uses harsh chemicals such as perchloroethylene or petroleum to clean your clothes. It possibly is carcinogenic and studies have shown that exposure even at lower levels can cause headaches, nausea, and dizziness. However, with co2 dry cleaning process, there is no chemical odor or residue on your clothes or risk of contamination to our groundwater and pollution of the air. So you never have to worry about exposing your family or the environment to harmful chemical residues. Liquid co2 is stored in a pressured tank when not in use. In the cleaning process, the clothes are placed in the dry cleaning machine drum and cooled co2 gas is pumped in until, at pressure, the co2 spontaneously turns into liquid. Clothes are then gently tumbled and cleaned using non-toxic soaps. After the wash cycle is complete the co2 is filtered, and the pressure is released spontaneously converting the co2 back to gas from liquid. The co2 then goes back into the holding tank. The clothes are left clean, smelling fresh, cool and perfectly dry. It is truly amazing. | |
